Five Rules for Summer Skin Care in Washington D.C.

Sun Damage in Washington, DCSummer is just around the corner, so it’s time to prepare. Is your skin ready? Here are five rules to keep your skin happy and healthy this summer:

#1: Hydrate

Drinking lots of water is especially important when the temperature rises outside. We sweat more and our cells lose water more quickly. Stay hydrated by drinking eight to 10 glasses of water per day and consume foods with higher water content, such as fruits, vegetables and juices.

#2: Use SPF

Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and apply at least 30 minutes prior to sun exposure. Reapply every couple hours. Sunscreens with a physical blocker, such as zinc oxide, are recommended.

#3: Exfoliate

To prevent a buildup of dirt and clogged pores, it’s important to exfoliate skin regularly. Use a store-bought or homemade exfoliator 2-3 times a week, preferably in the evenings. Do not exfoliate before going out in the sun, as it can make skin sensitive.

#4: Moisturize

A moisturizer protects skin from the sun, bacteria and environmental pollution, and it prevents dry or dull-looking skin. Use a moisturizer every day after cleansing and toning, and choose a moisturizer with sunscreen that won’t clog pores.

#5: Book a Laser Sun Damage Treatment

If you do experience sun damage, consider a laser sun damage treatment at Younger Image. Dr. Yousefi and his professional staff have five different lasers that can treat all types of skin types and conditions. A laser sun damage treatment is simple, with minimal recovery time. It can reduce sun damage, unwanted brown spots and freckles; reduce wrinkles and fine lines; and even improve pore size, tone and skin texture.
