What is a Breast Reduction?

A breast reduction is a surgical technique that eliminates excess skin and breast tissue to reduce the size of the breasts while enhancing their shape. Many women with large breasts experience pain in the back, shoulders and neck. They may also feel that their breasts aren’t properly proportioned to their body, making them self-conscious about their appearance. A breast reduction can reduce the size of the breasts to align with a patient’s cosmetic goals, while also correcting nipple size and placement for a natural appearance. Patients who undergo a breast reduction often enjoy a lifted appearance as an added benefit.

How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost in Washington, DC?

The cost of a breast reduction procedure begins at $9,000 and will vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver your desired results. During your consultation, we will evaluate your cosmetic goals to develop a personalized treatment plan. At this time, we will be able to provide the full cost of your treatment. To schedule any treatment, we ask for a $1,000 deposit that is nonrefundable. Two weeks before surgery, the patient will have a pre-op appointment where his or her full balance is due to be paid in full.

We offer flexible financing options, including Alphaeon® and CareCredit® to ensure that each patient has access to the treatment that they need. Alphaeon® and CareCredit® pay us in full and the patient pays the financing company a monthly fee. We also accept cash, checks, and major credit cards for your convenience.

What is the Breast Reduction Procedure Like?

Most breast reduction procedures will require an incision around the areola and underneath the breast. Through these incisions, we will remove excess fat and breast tissue to produce the desired breast size and shape. Then, we will resize and re-position the nipple so it rests naturally in the center of the breast. Patients who have smaller breasts or are looking for a lesser reduction in size may be eligible for smaller incisions.

Will a Breast Reduction Affect Nipple Sensation?

Adjusting the size and position of the nipple is a common request for breast reduction patients. Due to our advanced techniques and expertise in breast surgery, we are able to minimize the risk of nipple sensation loss during this procedure. However, some patients may notice changes in their nipple sensitivity during recovery. Whether you experience an increase or decrease in sensitivity, the sensation typically returns to normal within a few months of your procedure.

What is Recovery like Following a Breast Reduction?

After your breast lift procedure, you can expect an initial recovery period that lasts about one week. During this time, you may experience swelling, discomfort, or bruising in the breasts. Any discomfort or pain can be effectively managed with oral medications, which we can provide to you. It may be necessary to take time off of work and other activities while you recover. After this time, you will have to wear a specialized surgical bra to ensure that the breasts heal properly. Heavy lifting and other strenuous activities will have to be avoided for at least a month.
