What is Laser Resurfacing?

How Does Laser Resurfacing Remove Wrinkles?
Using concentrated light beams on the affected area, the laser slowly removes skin one layer at a time. Small areas of skin may be numbed with a local anesthetic. The procedure is usually less than one hour, but it depends on the size of the affected area.
What is the Recovery Process Like?
Patients do not need to take time off work before or after a laser resurfacing treatment. Some swelling or itching is normal following treatment. The itching can last up to 72 hours after the procedure. Skin will become dry and peel about five to seven days post-procedure. Any redness on the area treated with the laser may last two to three months. After six months, all redness should fade away. Stay out of the sun as much as possible. Wear a wide-brimmed hat outside and be sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, preferably with zinc oxide or another physical blocker component.
