Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jamal Yousefi believes in giving back to those in need. Dr. Yousefi has recently worked with the Alegria Foundation to provide children of Colombia with surgery to repair cleft palates. The foundation is an effort between surgeons in Columbia and the United States to provide this surgery to families who otherwise could not afford the procedure. In this video, Dr. Yousefi describes his experience with the mission and relates how grateful he is for the opportunity to help children suffering from the psychological effects of cleft palate. Dr. Yousefi and the other surgeons highlighted in the video believe that children should be enjoying the adventure of childhood and not feeling as if they need to hide away because of their appearance. The surgeons are also committed to providing long-term care to these children. The heart-wrenching short film states that during this mission, 45 children received corrective surgery in just three days’ time.
