Varicose veins are a common condition resulting from decreased blood flow from the leg up to the heart. In your leg, the blood has to flow upward, against gravity. Normally, the one-way valves prevent the blood from flowing backward. When these valves become weak and don't close properly, they allow the blood to flow backward, a condition called reflux. The increased pressure from reflux allows blood to pool and causes the bulging and twisting characteristic of the blood vessels known as varicose veins.

Leg stockings are worn for two days after the vein injections.
Some of the other varicose veins can be treated with a laser. It takes about 45 minutes and no general anesthesia is required, just a local anesthetic.
