Eyelid surgery in Vienna, or "blepharoplasty", is a procedure that makes eyes look alert and more rested, and it can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. Many of our patients choose eyelid surgery because its effects are subtle, yet effective. Patients look younger, more alert, and more cheerful. The results of blepharoplasty are often permanent although the skin does continue to age. For total eye rejuvenation, patients often combine blepharoplasty with laser skin resurfacing - to lighten dark circles - and brow lift - to raise eyebrows and smooth the skin on the forehead.

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

The procedure for eyelid surgery includes tiny incisions made in the natural contours around the eyes which should leave no visible scarring. Dr. Yousefi will usually work on the upper eyelids first to remove any fatty tissue and tighten loose muscle and remove the excess skin. Lower eyelids are completed next, to eliminate puffiness and provide a smoother look. Dr. Yousefi offers two techniques for eyelid surgery:

• Both fat and skin from the lower eyelids are removed through a slight incision in the lash line. Fat is removed and skin is tightened along this incision that follows the lash line.
• Transconjunctival blepharoplasty: removes fatty tissue, but leaves eyelid skin intact. An incision is made from the inside of the lower eyelid, fat is removed with thin forceps, and no incision is made outside on the skin.

What Can I Expect After Eyelid Surgery in Vienna?

Patients should expect to spend the days following surgery resting and limiting physical activities. Within seven days most eyelid surgery patients are able to return to work, and most swelling and bruising will have subsided in that time. Eyelid surgery is considered a safe procedure when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, and the recovery process must be closely monitored. Scars along the incision lines may be pink or red at the beginning but, given time, they will fade and become virtually imperceptible.
